[Guide] Galaxy J2 Prime (SM-G532 F/G/M) How to flash stock ROM and other goodies
Welcome to my first ever guide
The reason I am making this guide is because I've been asked a lot on how to flash back to stock via Odin and that concerns me a bit. Flashing back to stock is the FIRST thing you should ever learn how to do when it comes to modifying anything on your phone.
Not only will this be a life-saver if you accidentally modify something on your phone when you shouldn't, but also this is a great way to start from scratch if you just want a clean start with your phone.
The steps and information I'm about to share could technically work for any Samsung phone (granted you have the correct files), but I will focus mainly on flashing my Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime (SM-G532M, but could also work obviously with G532F and G532G) since it's the phone I can easily flash and re-flash over and over again and I can share step by step the process on how to do it. Also I want to keep editing this guide to add a few things that are relevant to this phone (maybe future tutorials and such) since this is a relatively new phone, there aren't many tutorials to begin with.
Also, I should warn you: This is the very first guide I ever do, so I may skip on small, maybe crucial details of this process. I am not responsible to any damage your phone suffers due to you following this tutorial/guide to flash back to stock. There is little chance something can go wrong when doing this, but you are doing it under YOUR RESPONSIBILITY
Anyway, let's begin.
What you need:
1. A PC
2. The will to use the SEARCH function or search in Google when you run into a problem that may or may not be listed in this guide
Downloads:
1. Samsung USB Drivers
2. Download the latest version of Odin
3. The latest firmware of your phone (Use google to search for it, recommended sites are Updato and Sammobile)
And now, for the tutorial:
REMINDER: This will erase/factory reset your phone. It will erase everything except media (photos, videos, etc...)
1. Turn your phone off
2. Enter download mode by holding the HOME button + Volume Down + Power button at the same time (hold all three together)
3. Your phone will warn you about installing custom OS and such and will ask you to either continue (press the VOL + button) or cancel (VOL - button), you want to choose "Continue"
4. You are now in Download Mode
5. Open Odin and connect your phone to your PC via USB
6. Odin should have detected your phone by showing something like 0:[COM#] in the ID:COM section
7. Unzip the firmware file you downloaded (from either Updato or Sammobile)
8. Click on BL and locate the files you unzipped, choose the BL file (should be named something like BP_G532XXXX(etc...).tar.md5
9. Do the same for AP, CP and CSC
10. Hit start and let Odin do its magic
11. After Odin is finished, it will re-start the phone, wait patiently for the phone to load up
12. You should now have your phone back safely to stock and ready for use
This is a very simple procedure, but if you feel like you missed anything or have a question, let me know.
How to root your Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime (SM-G532 F/M/G)
At the time of this guide, there are actually 3 methods to root this phone. I will not explain how to root your phone in this guide, I will only give you links on the actual guides. Please be sure to read the respective guides and make sure to give thanks to the authors
Here they are:
Guide 1: This is the very first guide that was made to root this phone. This guide, however, relies on having firmware on your phone that is outdated and will not work with newer firmware. It is simple if you have the correct firmware, however. Thanks to @hernankano for this tutorial!
Guide 2: This is another great tutorial on how to root your phone, however it's also restricted on using it on a specific firmware that is listed on the guide. It is recommended that you only attempt to root this way if you have the firmware specified on the guide since it might be incompatible with future firmware releases. Thanks to @ashyx for this tutorial!
Guide 3: This is what I consider the easiest and best way to currently (and probably ever) root your phone as it is done with a ported version of TWRP. This is the most compatible with all firmware versions! Again, thanks to @ashyx for his amazing work on porting TWRP and making this tutorial to root the phone.
If you feel we can make this guide better, please let me know to add anything that could be missing or if you have questions on procedures for this phone.
My vision is to have an all-in-one guide where everything is listed, but of course, this is barely my first guide so it might take a while to get there.
Thank you for reading.
